The UIC is pleased to announce the International Workshop on Vegetation and Trackside Land – Balancing Safety, Sustainability, Performance and Cost Challenges will be kindly hosted by Network Rail, on 1st and 2nd October 2013

The location is Network Rail, Westwood Centre, Coventry, UK

The final agenda for this event is expected to include international presentations and debate on the following issues:

Vegetation challenges to modern rail networks
Boundary and animal challenges to modern rail networks
Application of technology to asset inspection, knowledge and data
Application of technology to vegetation management
Management of invasive species on railway land e.g. Fallopia japonica, Impatiens glandulifera, Heracleum mantegazzianum
Potential emerging threats to railway vegetation e.g. Chalara fraxinea, Phytophthora ramorum, Anoplophora glabripennis
Railway biomass and other sustainable products
Sustainable environmental stewardship
Community and neighbour engagement

Responsible management of trackside land to assure that adjacent operations are safe, reliable and punctual is a significant challenge faced by surface railways across the world.

This UIC international conference, hosted by Network Rail aims to bring together managers, specialists, front-line practitioners and subject matter experts.

The event will be cost free to attend with associated in event refreshments provided. (Delegates will have to fund their own travel, out of event subsistence and accommodation).

This is a rare opportunity to showcase and share best practice, learn new information and to network or exchange issues / ideas with your railway peers from across the world!
